The story behind the artwork
The Eldgamla Isafold Limited Edition map artworks take you on a journey back to an ancient Iceland; a forbidding and isolated island with icy cold nights that whispered tales of folklore and myth; a time where nature was its own true master. The 16th century map Kristjana has used is based upon an original by Guðbrandur Þorláksson, bishop of Hólar. He was the longest-serving bishop in Iceland and is known for printing the Guðbrandsbiblía, first complete Icelandic translation of the Bible.
Eldgamla Isafold - Bimmblatt depicts an inky sea from which icy mountain caps spill the whitest light. The darkness is lifted by the abundant snow, which glows luminously from the glacial masses.
